...what a school should be

Located in South Lee County, Pinewoods Elementary School sits in the middle of the growing community of Estero.  We are a Reading First school which has afforded us a Reading Coach.  A coach serves us a valuable resource for professional development as our teachers instruct students to make necessary learning gains.  All members of Pinewoods instructional staff participate in professional study groups, meeting bi-monthly to examine research-based practices and to conduct action research in their classrooms.  Dedicated support staff, parents and community business and organization members continue to support the school's expressed goal of providing equal and excellent educational opportunities to all of our students.  For the past three years, Pinewoods has achieved a school grade of "A".

Pinewoods creates a safe and nurturing learning environment that implements environmental awareness, a research-based curriculum, the expanded use of technology, multicultural studies and conflict resolution skills while maintaining a strong community connection.  Pinewoods prepares students through ESOL education, a full-time gifted program, exceptional education programs, chorus, drum and recorder groups, Invention Fair, a Spring Student Showcase as well as local and special out-of-county field trips.  The Renaissance Academic Recognition Program is valued due to its success in motivating students to achieve.  Student diversity, including a 40.1% minority rate, reflecting a 34.1% Hispanic population, continues to have a strong impact on our curriculum and support services.  The Pinewoods community takes pride in its commitment to the development of the whole child.
